WhatsApp increases the number of participants in your video calls and voice calls

A few days ago we told you that the trace of an increase in participants in video calls and voice calls within WhatsApp had been discovered in the application code. This is also logical when worldwide confinement has triggered the use of video calling as the fastest method of being close to our family and friends in these difficult times. And soon after that discovery, it has been verified that the beta of the application already allows to have more participants in a group call, both video and voice.

Calls with more participants can now be made, at least in the beta

Both the iOS 2.20.50.25 and Android 2.20.133 betas already integrate the new limit of participants in group video and voice calls. With this new functionality we therefore come to the possibility of speaking eight people at the same time in both modalities. This is shown by one of the screenshots revealed by WABetaInfo, where it can be seen that when starting one of these calls you can add seven other participants, in addition to obviously us, so the total number of participants rises to eight. In this way the original figure is doubled, which was only four participants.

It is evident that if we compare it to the competition, with apps that have video and audio calls, it is still a fairly small number. Although logically, especially in the case of video calls, there is the handicap that on smaller mobile screens, it is difficult to fit eight people in real time, or seven in this case if we do not have ourselves on the screen. Of course, in order to have this number of participants, all those who are part of it will have to have the latest version of WhatsApp. If someone has not installed it, you will see a message from the application that several participating people are using an old version of WhatsApp.

And it warns us that in order for eight people to speak at the same time, they must all have the latest version of WhatsApp installed, so this is an important aspect when starting one of these new group calls. Now although the number of participants may be greater, the procedure for making the call remains the same and just as simple. To do this you must go to the calls section, sliding the main WhatsApp screen from right to left, and click on the call button at the bottom. This is where we can select that it is a group call, and choose the number of participants. Now the difference is that you can select up to seven.

So if you want to be able to make these group calls with up to eight participants now, the first thing you should do is install the WhatsApp beta and update to the latest version. Even so, not all users can access this new feature, even with the latest version installed, so this news may also come from the server.
